Work Relationships
Not all work relationships are employment relationships. Employment gives rise to special benefits and obligations for employees and employers under the Employment Standards Code and common law, or the laws developed by our courts and administrative tribunals. Much of the content in this Employment Law Library will discuss those benefits and obligations.
Other types of work relationships, however, are not governed in the same manner. A worker may be an independent contractor, dependent contractor, or volunteer. Each of these types of worker is treated differently in law.
