reckless endangerment

Mr George (Edmonton )

Last May I asked my landlord to fix the front door to my unit because the key had snapped off and I could not enter the premises . I had to use the patio door to get in and out.

Fast for are to February of this year, the front door lock was still not changed even though I talked to the landlord every month he came to pick up the rent. He kept telling me to give him a call when I’m home and he’ll fix it even though I told him the patio door is always open because there’s no way to fix lock it and he knew this.

So as we’re walking in home on early February though the patio which is not a main entrance, my boy slip and falls and breaks his arm. We have a personal injury attorney handling that.

My question is : can I sue my landlord for reckless endangerment for putting my life and children’s lives at risk because that was a fire hazard all those months (as he admitted to me he knew it was).

Not to mention, not using the front door took away from my full enjoyment of using the property and humiliation of having to use the patio door when I had people over.

I am no longer living there now but for 9 months I had to endure this. I wasn’t physically hurt or my other son but our lives were put at risk. What if there had been a fire? What about getting compensation for not being able to use the front door for 9 months?
