Repayment of outstanding last month lease payout

Gary (Calgary)

During a 24 year commercial lease, the commercial property management company. changed hands. The first property manager did not release our funds paid to them for security deposit/last months rent. We renewed our lease with the new property management company, and they did not acknowledge that there was any money for the final months rent as paid to the original commercial property manager.
Upon leaving our tenancy in April 2024, we did not pay the last months rent and are required to do so. We are not sure how to collect the original security deposit paid 24 years ago to the original property management company. We are paying the last month debt in post-dated checks, one of which was cashed and then returned to our account.
Are we able to continue to pay in post checks to pay off this last months rent over a 10 month period without being taken to debt collection?
