Rental vehicle liability insurance

Ashley Waldowski (Lac st anne)

I was involved in auto accident and as a result I had loss of use of my car. Insurance provided me with a rental while the insurance claim was being handled. The vehicle was deemed a total loss and I was paid out. At this point I’m decided not to return the rental and started paying for the car on my own. I never signed a new rental agreement and after a few months of rental it was involved in an accident. The rental company is trying to make me cover damages personally and I’m not sure where I stand legally? Am I responsible or should my insured be on this or is there no signed rental agreement an option?
