Inform opposing parties lawyer?

In order to keep our information relatively secure and simplify my question I won't go into too much detail.

We hired a lawyer because my wife's company didn't pay her out when she quit. They owe her nearly 15k in banked hours and vacation. We hired a lawyer to get it but he ended up being no help. Their lawyer offered 5000$ and he figured that was good enough and didn't want to argue it anymore. We talked to employment standards Canada (who we should've used in the first place) and they were confident that we could get what we were owed. We told the lawyer that and he argued and we ended up firing him. We will now be going through employment Canada.

My question is - Do we need to inform her ex-employers lawyer that we are no longer seeking compensation through the courts and will getting employment standards Alberta to handle it instead? I know we can only use employment standards if we aren't pursuing it with a lawyer.
