Lawyer Fee

JC (Grande Prairie)

Can a lawyer bill you without informing you? The law firm website indicate free consult and the lawyer who returned my call provided some advice over the phone a few times but never informed me how the legal fees were going to be charged. We never have a verbal or written agreement and the lawyer did not represent me. The advice provided was no different than what I have been informed from other lawyers who provided me with free consult. The next thing you know, the lawyer send me a bill. Is this legal?
