Sandra Fellger (Airdrie)

I recently received a medical diagnosis which has me thinking of the future. My common-law husband and I both have children prior to our relationship, and I want to make sure all of our kids would be protected if I when I to pass away, and if he was to remarry or cohabit. I have heard of children being left with no inheritance when a parent dies and the other remarries or doesn't honour my will and personal directive, and wouldn’t want this to happen to my children. I want to ensure that the house that we own is distributed equally between all of our children. Can I stop this from happening?

There are complicated legal matters involved here, so you should have a consult with a lawyer to discuss in detail. You will need a will, and you could create a trust for your children. Speak with a lawyer that practices in Wills and Estates.
