Jeffrey (Calgary)

Are school fees, school lunch programs, bus passes, and driving school acceptable section seven expenses?

School expenses fall under s. 7(1)(d): "extraordinary expenses for primary or secondary school education..."

The key word is "extraordinary", and is further defined in s. 7(1.1): https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-97-175/section-7.html

In short, usual school fees, lunch programs and so on don't normally qualify, but there are always exceptions. It very much depends on the circumstances. And of course, parents can always agree on how to share such expenses, whether they fall under s. 7 or not.
